Where It All Began

feral-star emerged from countless solo expeditions along forgotten stretches of South African coastline. What started as one photographer's obsession with finding the perfect light became a mission to share these discoveries with others.

We spent years mapping routes, testing conditions across seasons, and building relationships with local communities. Every location in our portfolio has been photographed dozens of times in different weather, different light, different moods. We know what works and when.

The name reflects our philosophy. There's something wild and uncontrolled about the South African coast—a feral beauty that resists taming. And there's something aspirational about reaching for distant light, following stars along dark shorelines to reach that perfect vantage point.

Group sizes stay small. Five participants maximum on most routes, sometimes fewer. This isn't about efficiency; it's about ensuring everyone gets personal attention and space to create without competing for positions.

But they're happiest standing in cold dawn mist, waiting for that sliver of light that transforms an ordinary rock pool into something extraordinary.
